T22 9EU를 분해하다!

네 속을 모르겠어! 자신의 속내를 잘 드러내지 않는 사람에게 이런 말을 자주 하게된다. 노트북을 사용하는 유저들도 같은 심정일 것이다. 노트북을 쓰다보면 간혹 이 작은 몸체에 뭐가 들었길래 데스크탑과 거의 동일한 성능을 발휘하는걸까... 그러면서도 대단히 여리고 민감할 것 같아 쉽사리 속을 뜯어볼 생각을 못하게 되는데 가장 결정적인 이유는?

분해하다가 잘못되면 돈이 얼만데... 바로 이것이다.

실제로 필자의 경우 92년부터 60여대가 넘는 노트북을 사용하면서 무모한 분해작업으로 장례를 치뤄야 했던 노트북만도 여럿된다. 그 중에는 출시 당시 세간을 떠들석하게 했던 미니노트북의 선두주자 리브래또 30 - 97년 당시 190만원이라는 거금을 주고 구입한 것이었다. - 바이오 505EX 등 꽤 쓸만한 노트북을 시쳇말로 ’아작’을 냈다. 이런 경력 때문일까.. 이제 노트북을 사면 의례 ’이눔 안에는 뭘 달고 나왔나..’하고 배를 갈라(?) 확인해보는 것이 거의 습관처럼 되었다. 앞으로 노트기어에서는 노트북의 내부 구조에 대한 다양한 기사들을 제공할 예정이다. 오늘은 첫 주자로 한 때 노트북 유저들의 가슴을 설레게 했던 IBM의 최상위 라인인 T22 9eu가 자신의 속을 드러낼 준비를 하고 있다.


일단 이 노트북의 사양은 팬디엄 3 1기가,128램, 32기가 5400RPM, 14.1인치 SXGA 랜/모뎀 콤보 등의 사양을 가지고 있다.

먼저 뜯어보기 편한 곳부터 열어보자. 노트북 뒷면의 확장베이 커버들을 개방하면 위와 같은 모습이 드러난다. 우측상단이 미니 PCI 규격의 랜/모뎀 콤보이고 그 아래가 램슬롯이다. 144PIN SDRAM 슬롯이 두 개 있으며 최대 확장 용량은 1GB이다.



설마 이정도 해놓고 분해했다 했겠는가.. 이제 본론으로 들어가보자. 본체에 붙어있는 볼트를 다 풀어보니 멀쩡하던 노트북이 이런 모습이 되었다. 마더보드는 인텔사의 443보드가 들어가 있고 보드 클럭은 100MHz이다. 따라서 T22 9eu에 들어가는 램도 PC100이어야 한다. 133클럭의 램은 초기부팅시부터 인식하지 못한다.


제일 먼저 보고 싶은 부분이 노트북의 두뇌인 CPU 일것이다. T22의 핵심 역할을 하는 CPU는 어떻게 생겼을까...CPU를 구경하려면 CPU 열받았을 때 부지런히 열을 식혀주는 팬을 먼저 들어내야 한다.


사정없이 CPU 팬을 들어냈더니... 음 이렇게 생겼군. 테스크 탑의 팬보다는 어딘지 모르게 복잡하고 뭔가 있어보인다. 그냥 CPU로 갈까 하다가 이넘 내부는 어찌 생겼을꼬.. 하는 생각에 팬을 뜯어보았다.


그랬더니... 이런 모습이었다... 뭔가 복잡한 제어장치가 있으려니 했는데, 내부는 생각보다 단순했다. 팬은 데스크탑과는 달리 CPU의 온도 센서에 의해 온도가 일정치에 도달할 때에만 동작을 하는 전자동 방식이다. 전자동 방식이기에 복잡한 구조로 되어 있을줄 알았는데 의외로 싱겁다.
