한국마이크로소프트-인텔코리아, 윈도우 8 디바이스 데이’ 개최

한국마이크로소프트는 윈도우 8 출시를 기념하여 11월 9일부터 10일까지 양일간 영등포 타임스퀘어 1층 아트리움에서 ‘윈도우 8 디바이스 데이(Windows 8 Device Day)’를 개최한다. ‘윈도우 8 디바이스 데이’는 한국마이크로소프트와 인텔코리아가 윈도우8 운영체제 출시를 기념해 공동 개최하는 행사로, 9개 PC 제조사의 출시 예정 디바이스를 한 장소에서 비교해볼 수 있는 좋은 기회다. 행사기간 동안 타임스퀘어 방문객은 누구나 윈도우 8과 이를 탑재한 울트라북, 컨버터블*, 태블릿 등 다양한 폼팩터의 디바이스를 직접 체험할 수 있다.

특히 이번 행사에서는 터치 기능을 탑재한 9개 PC 제조사의 울트라북, 노트북과 태블릿 등이 대거 선보일 예정이다. 행사장 부스는 인텔 체험존과 마이크로소프트 데모존으로 구성되었으며, 인텔 체험존에서는 ‘터치’ 기능을 활용한 디스플레이를 배치해 터치의 즐거움을 느낄 수 있다. 이외에도 비보이 공연, 퀴즈 이벤트, 스탬프 랠리, 터치 홀릭 게임 등이 준비되어 방문객들에게 다양한 즐거움을 제공할 예정이다.

한국마이크로소프트와 인텔코리아는 ‘윈도우 8 디바이스 데이’를 통해 윈도우8 운영체제에 기반한 신규 디바이스로 기존 윈도우 운영체제 사용자는 물론, 더욱 진화된 모바일 컴퓨팅을 요구하는 사용자들도 만족할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 또한 지난 30여년 간 긴밀한 협력관계를 유지해 온 양사는 윈도우8 출시를 계기로 더욱 더 견고하고 돈독한 관계를 구축해 나간다는 전략이다. 이에 따라 ‘윈도우8 디바이스 데이’ 이후에도 유통 및 판매 프로모션을 공동으로 진행하는 등 침체되어 있는 PC 시장에 활력을 불어넣을 계획이다.

인텔코리아 이희성 사장은 “인텔은 울트라북에서부터 스마트폰, 태블릿에 이르기까지 다양한 모바일 디바이스를 넘나들며 사용자 중심의 컴퓨팅 경험을 전달하고자 한다”며 “인텔은 윈도우8 운영체제의 출시를 매우 기대해왔으며, 인텔 아키텍처 기반의 디바이스에서 윈도우8이 최고의 성능을 발휘할 것으로 믿고 있다. 인텔은 마이크로소프트와 함께 윈도우8 중심의 타협 없는 PC경험을 제공함으로써 시장을 성장시켜 나갈 것”이라고 밝혔다.

한국마이크로소프트 김 제임스 사장은 “윈도우 8은 PC건 태블릿이건, 정보를 생산할 때나 소비할 때나, 업무 중이든 여가를 즐기든 사용자가 필요한 모든 경험을 제공하는 운영체제”라며 “윈도우 8이 탑재된 다양한 디바이스들을 통해 컴퓨팅의 즐거움이 한층 향상될 것”이라고 말했다.

한편, 한국마이크로소프트는 9일 오후 이 자리에서, 지난 9월 진행되었던 ‘윈도우 8 앱 스타-해커톤 코리아’ 우수작을 선별하는 ‘앱 스타 어워즈’ 시상식을 개최하고 현장 실시간 투표를 통한 최종 심사를 거쳐 대상 수상자를 가린다. 이 날 학생 부문 대상 수상자에게 888만원의 상금 및 상패가 수여되며 기업 및 프로부문 대상에게는 500만원의 상금 및 상패가, 그 외 최우수상 및 금상 수상자들에게는 윈도우 8 PC 및 윈도우용 키넥트가 부상으로 지급된다.

이 밖에 한국마이크로소프트는 윈도우 8 앱 생태계 활성화를 위한 프로그램의 일환으로 9일과 10일 대치동 한국마이크로소프트 본사에서 윈도우 8 앱을 개발하는 글로벌 해커톤 행사인 ‘와우잡 2012(WOWZAPP 2012)’를 개최한다. 전세계 동시에 진행되는 ‘와우잡 2012’는 국내에서는 사전 참가 등록한 88명이 대한민국 국가대표 학생 개발자로서 참여한다.
