요사이 데스크탑에 필적할만한 성능을 가진 팬티엄 4 노트북이 속속 출시되고 있다. 그 중에서 육중한 크기와 테스크탑 성능을 무색케 하는 노트북 두 종을 비교해보자. 흥미로운 대결의 두 주인공은 소니 바이오의 최상위 라인인 GRX71과 도시바 5105-607 이다.



일단 크기 무게에서는 바이오 GRX의 압도적인 패!

스팩상의 무게는 3.6킬로그램이다. 노트북이라고 말하기엔 실로 부담스러우리만큼 무겁다.
엄청난 무게에도 불구하고 무게배분이 잘 되어 있지 않아 실제로 들었을 때의 체감무게는 어림잡아 4-5킬로그램은 되보인다.

가장 난감한 문제... 아직까지 시중에 이 노트북을 수납할 수 있는 가방이 없다!! 언제부터인가 이런 노트북을 데스크탑 대체용이라는 표현을 사용하던데 그 말은 이노트북을 위한 표현이 아닐까 싶다.16.1인치의 액정을 탑재한 최초의 노트북이니 감수하자라고 생각하면 좋으련만... 그래도 너무하다라는 생각을 지울 수 없다.

그렇다고 도시바 5105는 아담하냐...면 그것도 아니다. 3.3킬로그램이라는 사양표에서 말해주듯.. 5105도 그야말로 한무게, 한크기 한다. IBM T23과 나란히 놓아보니 T23은 그야말로 서브노트북만해 보인다.

차량을 이용해 이동하는 유저들이라면 크기에 너무 위축되지 말라. 하지만 뚜벅이족들이여! 그래봐야 4킬로그램도 안되는데 뭐. 학교다닐 때 매고다닌 가방 무게 생각하면?? 이런식의 망상에 빠지지 말라. 이건 인간이 가방에 넣고 휴대하고 다니면서 감당할 수 있는 무게가 아니라는 사실만 종용하고 싶다.



디자인



이건 워낙에 주관적인 부면이라 뭐라고 단정적으로 말하기는 어렵다.

도시바 5105의 경우 포르쉐를 베이스로 디자인했다고 주장한단다.. 자동차 디자인 잘하는 곳 본떳다고 노트북 디자인도 멋있으란 법은 없지만 그런데로 멋을 많이 부린 흔적이 곳곳에 보인다. 상판은 독특하게 블루계열로 번쩍번쩍 윤기나게 도색되어 있고 내부는 점잖은 검은색으로 통일되어 있다. 상당히 멋스럽다는 느낌을 주는 조합이다.
스피커의 위치는 액정의 힌지 좌우로 포진(?)하고 있으며 노트북의 앞부분에는 5개의 인디케이터와 음악재생 프로그램 등을 제어할 수 있는 기능키들이 멋들어지게 배열되어 있다. 조그마한 LCD 창이 있어 푸른빛을 내며 중간중간 애교를 떤다.

각종 포트들은 덥게로 가려져 있어 돌출된 곳이 없이 깔끔해보이며 전체적으로 곡선을 살려 부드러운 느낌을 준다.

하지만 세부적으로 좀 더 신경을 썼으면 좋았으련만... 일단 키보드 좌측 상단에 Satellite라는 로고는 아무리봐도 유치하다. 노트북 팜레스트에 덕지덕지 붙여놓은 스티커도 상당히 신경을 거스리게 하며 반투명 제질의 키보드가 독특해보이긴 하나 절대 고급스러워 보이지는 않는다.



그리고 노트북 케이스 재질은 강화프라스틱을 사용한듯한데 아무리 봐도 내구력이 없어 보인다. 조립상태를 봐도 각 이음새가 정확하게 맞물려 있지 않고 조금씩 들떠 있으며 액정을 여닫을 때도 힌지가 타이트하게 액정상판을 잡아주지 못해 조금은 삐걱대는 소리를 내며 불안하게 움직인다.

액정 상판부위의 이음새를 눌러보니 삐걱삐것 소리가 난다..-.-;; 떨어뜨리기라도 하는 날엔 문자그대로 눈물 깨나 빠질게다.



GRX는 어떤가..

음... 노트북 상판을 물끄러미 바라보면서 느낀점... 아.. 참 넓다... 이정도 크기면 간단한 식사시 식탁 대용으로도 가능하겠는걸? ^^;;

A4 용지와 비교한 사진을 보면 느낌이 대충 올것이다. 그래서 그런지 디자인은 그저 그렇다. 뭐든지 크다는 생각밖엔 달리 감흥이 없다.

액정도 크고.. 키보드도 크고... 조그다이얼도 크고...액정 상판 고리도 크고...

아 추억의 소니.. 2년쓰고 버렸다. 다시는 소니 쓰지 않기로 맹새하고.. ^^ 그래도 좋았던 모델 내가쓴건 GRV-7LP 였는데.. GRX71은 일본출시 모델인가.? 살때 340만원주고사고..2년쓴후에 150정도에 팔았는데..잘 팔았죠?

이래저래 발열떄문에 고생했던 기억... 그래픽 작업할때 냉각팬밑에 얼음까지 놔두고 사용해봤던 뼈아픈 노트북... 무조건 올인원을 추구하는 귀차니즘떄문에..ㅠㅠ

그런데 이거 팔고 산것이..또 비슷한 후지쯔의 n6010...아직 도착은 안했지만..과연 어떨까? 무지한 소음과 발열 ..역시 비슷하다는데.. 난 외 15.4인치 놋북에 만족할수없는가. ㅠㅠ

살아생전 꿈이 하나 있다면 17인치 와이드 액정에 1600 1200 해상도의 클리어 브라이트 액정에.. 모든 기본 기능 포함되고 무게는 2.3 키로.. 베터리 구동 5시간.. 본체 두께는 2.5센티... 한 5년후면 만날수 있을까? 후지쯔 싫은데..사양때문에. 삼성이나 엘지서 만들어라..부디...
